I agree that the dealer most likely does not go through all the trouble to properly torque the head.
I have never torqued the head either, because of the troubles that you mentioned.
So far I have not had any regrets, for not doing it. After more than 10,000 miles, there is no oil leakage or compression blow by or valve clearance problem.
Did you find any bolts that were loose??
